Hawkins Foundation gifts COVID relief to BGCMV
YERINGTON, Nev. – Continuing a long-standing relationship with Boys & Girls Clubs of Mason Valley, the Robert Z. Hawkins Foundation has gifted the youth organization $20,000 for COVID-19 relief efforts.
It’s no shock that BGCMV, which serves youth in Yerington, Hawthorne, Silver Springs and Dayton, has taken a large financial hit from the Coronavirus pandemic, joining countless other nonprofits and businesses. With an expanded meal program that has delivered and handed out more than 20,000 meals since mid-March, increased safety measures and personal protective equipment, and the loss of revenue from businesses and the Night in the Country Music Festival, the Club has felt effects financially. The funds from the Hawkins Foundation will go directly to relieving the hit along with supporting the Club’s additional efforts like the meal delivery service.
“We have really great friends at the Robert Z. Hawkins Foundation, and a gift like this keeps the hope and optimism going during such a weird and tough time,” Travis Crowder, the Club’s chief professional officer, said. “Even when our doors were closed, our services continued where they could. This gift helps ensure we can keep our expanded meal program and safety measures going as long as they’re needed.”
“We’re incredibly happy we can support the Boys & Girls Club during this unprecedented time,” David Russell, vice-chairman of the foundation, said. “The Trustees and I commend this great organization and are proud to partner with them during the pandemic.”
The Club closed its doors in the middle of March when school closed but quickly began offering delivery meals, virtual programming and wellness support. After a period of only serving the children of healthcare and essential workers, Club sites were open in all four communities to all families on June 8.
