Dear Parents,

In accordance with state directives, Boys & Girls Clubs of Mason Valley has adjusted all its sites to keep your children and our staff safe. We are currently open, with strict social distancing and safety procedures in place, in Yerington and Hawthorne to all families. Sutro Elementary in Dayton is currently open to children of healthcare professionals only, and we are working with Lyon County School District and their timeline to open fully in both Dayton and Silver Springs. For more information, click here. The Attic Thrift Store is currently open for business but per state guidelines the Yerington Movie House remains closed.

We understand the impact this has on our families, and we truly appreciate your understanding and patience as we work to reopen for all our families in all our communities.

If any families are in need of food or basic necessity throughout the closure please contact Christina Hurt, Director of Operations at Christina@bgcmasonvalley.org.

Boys and Girls Clubs of Mason Valley
Core Areas

Boys & Girls Clubs of Mason Valley serves youth with high-yield activities, targeted programs and regular attendance while focusing on five key elements: safe, positive environment, fun, supportive relationships, opportunities and expectations, and recognition.

Core Areas of Programming

CHARACTER & LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT
Programs in this area strive to encourage youth to develop a positive self-image, establish meaningful relationships during interactions with Club and community. We also encourage youth in this program to engage in the democratic process and become culturally aware and respectful toward their own and others’ cultural identities.

EDUCATION & CAREER DEVELOPMENT
We work with young people to explore their abilities and apply these skills to real-world situations. We help them understand basic educational disciplines and familiarize them with technology to show how it can help them personally and professionally.

HEALTH & LIFE SKILLS
We care about health, which is why this program focuses on educating members on living positive, successful lives as self-sufficient adults who can set personal goals and foster their own well-being.

THE ARTS
Programs in The Arts enable young people to hone their creativity and develop their world view through knowledge and appreciation of visual and performing arts, crafts and creative writing.

SPORTS, FITNESS, & RECREATION
Athletic competition and fitness programs can provide many benefits for our youth. The Sports, Fitness and Recreation programs we offer will develop fitness abilities, social skills, positive use of leisure time, as well as encourage stress management and appreciation of the environment.

Examples of Our Programming

Boys & Girls Clubs of the Mason Valley use the core areas of programming to develop activities for Club Members that are safe, fun and life-changing! Here, young people can learn and grow in a safe space that welcomes youth from all communities. Here are a few examples of programs you may see at our locations:

Power Hour – A homework assistance and academic support resource.

Computers – Club Members participate in internet safety classes, music editing, Photoshop and more. Technology is always evolving and now our children can evolve with it too!

Fine Arts – Encourages artistic expression among Club members ages 6-18 through drawing, painting, printmaking, collage, mixed media and sculpture. The program culminates in an organization-wide exhibit.

Triple Play –BGCA’s first comprehensive health and wellness program, developed in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, strives to improve the overall health of Boys & Girls Clubs of Mason Valley members ages 6-18 by increasing their daily physical activity, teaching them good nutrition and helping them develop healthy relationships.

Torch Club – Small group leadership and service club for youth ages 11-13. Torch Club members learn to elect officers and work together to implement activities in four areas: service to Club and community, education, health and fitness and social recreation.

STEM – We offer fun clubs to encourage youth to build skills in STEM-related fields, including our weather club, chess club, science club, cooking club, summer camping and more.
