Kelsey, Walker River Basin Communities Foundations fund safety improvements at Boys & Girls Club

Solar energy upgrades, new computers also supported

YERINGTON, Nev. – Rising to the occasion to ensure our members are as safe as they can be, the Walker River Basin Communities Foundation and Estelle J. Kelsey Foundations have come together to fund new interior and exterior doors at Boys & Girls Clubs of Mason Valley’s Yerington clubhouse.

The door overhaul came as a recommendation in the Club’s annual safety evaluation done by Boys & Girls Clubs of America. Due to both the age of the doors, as well as their original function as glass storefronts, replacing the exterior doors and adding additional interior doors came as a recommendation. The project, totaling approximately $35,000, is fully funded and ready to begin.

“We scored very, very highly on this year’s safety assessments,” Thomas Crowder, the Club’s safety director, said. “This was an upgrade they recommended to really maximize our clubhouse’s safety, and it’s amazing these two groups are going to make it happen for us.”

The project will replace three sets of exterior glass doors to solid metal, change a set of glass indoor doors to solid metal, and add two sets where there currently are none.

In addition to the door replacement project, the Kelsey Foundation provided funding for additional computers at the Dayton and Silver Springs clubhouses. The Communities Foundation also covered repairs needed for the Club’s solar panel system.
